Top-down Sweater with Set-in Sleeves
Many knitters enjoy creating seamless sweaters from the top down:
they're easy to adjust for a customized fit, and they require almost
no finishing. Raglan sleeves are popular, but set-in sleeves are also
possible, and offer a better fit for many people. Add saddles at the
shoulders, and you've got a built-in design element.
In the sample sweater for this class, cables frame a V-shaped section of
moss stitch at center front, meet at the bottom of the V, and continue as
a simple rope cable to the bottom of the sweater. The saddles and
sleeves echo this design.
In the class, you'll learn to knit the sample sweater such that it
fits you. You'll learn to go from gauge swatches and
measurements to stitch counts, and you'll learn a construction
technique that lets you try on a sweater to achieve the perfect
length. You'll learn to shape an armhole with increases rather
than decreases, to provisionally cast on for a seamless underarm, and
to use short rows to shape a sleeve cap. In the end, you'll have a
perfectly custom-fit sweater, with a minimum of finishing fuss... and
the skills needed to design more.
